Recollection: The Journey Within: An Introduction to the Practices of Mysticism (2nd August, 2024)
Mysticism is the exploration of the profound and intimate relationship between the individual and the divine. It invites us to look beyond the ordinary and seek a deeper spiritual connection through personal experience. The recollection was guided by Fr. Michael D'Cunha and began on Friday, August 2, 2024.
Fr. Michael D’Cunha explained the core principles and practices of mysticism, detailing how mystics across various traditions have sought to experience a direct union with the divine through methods such as contemplation, meditation, and profound prayer. He emphasized three different stages: the purgative stage, the illuminative stage, and the unitive stage. He also provided questions for introspection, encouraging us to examine both our positive and negative aspects and to accept ourselves as we are.
Through this exploration, we uncovered the stages of mystical experience, learned practical techniques for deepening our inner life, and discovered how these practices can be integrated into our daily lives. The recollection concluded on Saturday afternoon with the Holy Eucharist.
