Pongal celebration at St Pius X Seminary (14th January)
Pongal, the harvest festival cherished by the Tamil community, is a heartfelt expression of gratitude for a bountiful harvest and divine providence. It was a moment of celebration when the community at St. Pius X, on January 14th, 2025, gathered in enthusiasm, unity, and reverence.
The celebrations began with vibrant decorations that transformed the venue into a colourful blends of Tamil culture, featuring traditional motifs, rangoli designs, and festive garlands. The heart of the celebration was the Holy Eucharist in Tamil, presided over by dear Fr. Anbarasan, whose deep spiritual presence made the ceremony all the more poignant.
During the Mass, Fr. Anbarasan delivered an inspiring homily, reflecting on the deeper significance of Pongal. He spoke about the festival's roots in gratitude—thanking God, nature, and the hard work of farmers for the blessings of food and life itself.
After the liturgical celebration, the community gathered to enjoy a lively cultural program. A captivating dance performance, showcased the heritage of Tamil Nadu. This was followed by an engaging program that featured music, felicitation of cooks and heartfelt expressions of joy, bringing together people of all ages in a spirit of togetherness.
It was concluded with a traditional Pongal feast, served on banana leaves—a cherished custom that added authenticity and warmth to the celebration. The aroma of sweet Pongal, coconut, and other traditional dishes filled the air as the community savoured the meal together, symbolizing unity and shared blessings.
This year’s Pongal celebration at St. Pius X was more than just an event; it was a meaningful experience that honoured cultural roots, deepened spiritual connections, and strengthened the bonds of community. It left everyone with cherished memories and a renewed spirit of gratitude for the blessings in their lives.
