FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY AND INDEPENDENCE DAY (15th August, 2024)
The eve of 14th August, in the Seminary, was prefigured by a prayerful atmosphere as a preparation for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. “Mary’s Assumption foreshadows our life in heaven” said Dn. Derrick who along with his other two companions led the whole house into Vespers.
The dawn of 15th August also filled us with the spirit of patriotism as we celebrated our country’s 78th Independence Day along with the feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. The celebrations commenced with the praying of Lauds on the occasion of the feast of the Assumption followed by the Holy Eucharist. The Mass on 15th August is traditionally celebrated in Hindi as a reminder to us to be daughters and sons of the soil of India. Subsequently, the whole congregation gathered on the Ordination Ground to pay their respects to our Mother Land. Under Br. Yahuna’s command the program moved without a hitch. Mr. Franky Miranda (a former member of the domestic staff) did the honours of hoisting the flag. Dn. Pretam then exhorted the gathering through his patriotic words as he extolled our countrymen and women who valiantly engaged in India’s struggle for freedom. The Rector, Fr. Gilbert de Lima also shared his thoughts on the importance of the day asking us rhetorically whether we are truly free after 77 years of Independence. The program was then brought to an end by the soulful singing of Brs. Brijesh and Goldy which arouse within us a patriotic spirit.
