Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and World Day of Sick- 10th February, 2024.
St Pius the X community celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and World Day of the Sick on February 10, 2024.The community gathered near the grotto for morning prayer and for the Eucharist, celebrated by Fr. Andrew. This feast commemorates the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to a young girl named Bernadette Soubirous in the town of Lourdes, France, in 1858. According to the accounts, Mary appeared to Bernadette a total of 18 times in a grotto near the town, revealing herself as the Immaculate Conception and instructing Bernadette to dig a spring, which later became known for its healing properties. This feast is celebrated by Catholics around the world, particularly those devoted to Our Lady of Lourdes, and often involves pilgrimages to Lourdes, special Masses, and prayers focused on Mary’s intercession and the theme of healing. Additionally, the World Day of the Sick, established by Pope John Paul II in 1992, is observed on February 11th, which coincides with the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. Let’s follow Our Lady of Lourdes’ example of kindness and care, and let’s pray for those who are sick. Together, we’ll keep supporting each other and spreading love and healing, not just here but everywhere we go.
