"ORA ET LABORA" (WORK AND PRAY)

In the highly urbanized metropolis of Mumbai, St. Pius X College stands as an envied site for many on account of nearly 30 acres of lush greenery and the tranquil atmosphere which pervades its campus. Indeed, God has been very gracious in providing us with a serene atmosphere conducive to study and prayer. It is only fitting that we repay our Lord and Master by taking care of this property, more so in an age when environmental concerns are at their peak. The Holy Father himself, in his encyclical Laudato Si, calls upon each one of us to take care of our common home, Mother Earth. In response to this, we have decided to take extra care of our property and utilize it to the fullest. Accordingly, each class has been allotted a portion of uninhabited land in the campus, to till it and take care of it (Gen 2:15).

Seminarians working in their respective class wise patches of land.

The efforts put in by the seminarians are already showing slow signs of bearing fruits. We have managed to cultivate bitter gourds, brinjals, spinach, ridge gourds, snake gourds, etc. This has also helped in reducing the expenses of the house with regard to food. Every Wednesday afternoon the seminarians can be found labouring at different places in the campus, besides looking after the land on other days. This is a unique way of blending oneself with nature and living out an eco-spirituality. A small contribution, indeed, by all of us for the great gift that God has bestowed upon us!
